Ask for more budget, or move it
How revisions and transfers go through approval and change Revised, never Original.
Budgets change during the year. Vintage People handles that with two kinds of request, and neither edits a published line directly. Each line keeps an Original budget, locked when the year is published, and a Revised budget that moves only through approval.
Ask for more. Open Finance, Budgeting and use Budget revisions. The head of the line's department, or Finance, enters the line, the amount, a reason and an effective date. Out of the box the request goes to the head of department (skipped when the head raised it), then Finance, then the CEO on a step that cannot be delegated. You can change that chain in Settings, Approval workflows under Budget revisions.
On approval, Revised rises in the effective month, is spread over the rest of the year, or lands in the months the requester chose, depending on your settings. Original never changes, and a rejection leaves Revised as it was. You choose where revisions land, and who hears about decisions, in Settings, Budgeting & approvals.
Move budget. Use Budget transfers to move an amount from one line to another. Transfers are off until you allow them in Settings, Budgeting & approvals, and each kind is switched on separately: within a department, between Opex and Capex, and between departments. A transfer goes through its own approval workflow and moves nothing until the final approval. It then shows as a minus on the giving line and a plus on the receiving one.
Every revision is kept in the revisions log, which you can filter by year, location, department, line and status. Nothing in the budget ledger is ever edited or deleted.
