code changes when PAYE rules changed

PAYE changed and we updated one table with an effective date. No vendor ticket, no waiting for a release.
Payroll Lead, A national logistics operator

The challenge

Statutory change used to mean a support ticket and a wait for a software update. That's risky when filings have deadlines and a small error multiplies across every employee.

What we did

Tax bands, reliefs and statutory rates are data the team owns, effective-dated and versioned. NTA-2025 was a configuration change, applied in minutes, with closed periods left exactly as filed.

The results

NTA-2025 applied without a software update
Variance report catches anything that changes between runs
Closed periods stay immutable, so what was filed stays filed
